LARAMIE, Wyo. -- Investigators now say the deaths of three Wyoming college students are a case of murder-suicide.

Police in Laramie, Wyo., believe Justin Geiger used a rifle to kill one student and a knife to kill a second student and wound another -- and then turned a gun on himself. Geiger, 20, of South Beloit, Ill., died of a single gunshot wound to the head, which is believed to have been self-inflicted.

The bodies were found last weekend inside an off-campus house.

A 19-year-old student, who was roommates with Justin Geiger, was the only survivor. Officers said he also suffered knife wounds during his encounter with the suspect, as well as minor wounds when he fled the home.

The slain victims were Amber N. Carlson, 19, of Denver, who died of a single gunshot wound to the head; and Adam Towler, 20, of Laramie, who died of multiple stab wounds to the chest. Police said the knife used was one that had been in the residence. It is not immediately known if the slain victims were sexually assaulted.

Police said the three victims knew each other and were drinking alcohol at a small party near the University of Wyoming campus, where three of the students attended school. Towler was visiting from Emory University in Georgia.

Investigators described what happened as "a very violent criminal act."

The exact chronology of events is still under investigation.

Police still aren't sure what the motive was. They believe alcohol played some part, but they don't think drugs were used. Investigators said there was a party going on at the time.
